The best AI visibility tool depends on your team size, your budget and the AI platforms your buyers use. Small teams can start daily tracking for $50 a month or less with Otterly.AI or HubSpot AEO. SEO teams already on Semrush or Ahrefs should try those add-ons first. Agencies get the most from Peec AI, and large brands from Profound or Scrunch.

  • Best for small teams on a budget: Otterly.AI, from $29 a month
  • Best for HubSpot users: HubSpot AEO (beta), $50 a month
  • Best if you already use Semrush: Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit, $99 a month per domain, billed annually
  • Best value for daily tracking at volume: SE Visible by SE Ranking, 200 prompts from $99 a month
  • Best for agencies: Peec AI, from $95 a month, with agency plans
  • Best for market-wide research: Ahrefs Brand Radar, from $199 a month per AI platform
  • Best for wide engine coverage: Scrunch, from $250 a month billed annually
  • Best for flexible, credit-based tracking: AthenaHQ, free tier, then $295 a month
  • Best for enterprise: Profound, custom pricing

How we compared these tools

We compared each tool on six things that matter when you buy:

  1. AI platforms covered, and which ones cost extra
  2. Prompts per plan, the number of buyer questions you can track
  3. How often prompts run, daily, every few days, weekly or monthly
  4. Entry price, including billing terms and add-ons
  5. Reporting: citations at page level, sentiment, share of voice, exports, API and Looker Studio
  6. Free trial or free plan, so you can check fit before paying

Where a vendor's pages disagreed, we used the pricing page and kept the claim cautious. One case: Peec AI's pricing page did not show prices when we checked, so its prices come from Peec's own published pricing facts page, dated July 2026.

The 9 best AI visibility tools, one by one

1. Otterly.AI: best for small teams on a budget

Otterly.AI is the cheapest way we found to track AI answers daily for one brand. It includes ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, and checks cited URLs and domains every day.

  • Price: Lite $29 a month for 15 prompts; Standard $189 for 100; Premium $489 for 400. About 15% off when billed annually.
  • Good: brand mentions, sentiment, competitor benchmarking, prompt research and content audits. Looker Studio, API and MCP on Standard and above, and unlimited seats.
  • Watch out: AI Mode, Gemini and Claude are paid add-ons, and 15 prompts on Lite is only enough to test the water.

2. HubSpot AEO (beta): best for HubSpot users

HubSpot's AEO tool tracks 25 prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, with sentiment, share of voice, citations and suggested prompts. You do not need a HubSpot subscription to buy it.

  • Price: $50 a month, or $45 billed annually. Also included in Marketing Hub Pro and Enterprise.
  • Good: a low entry price, and a natural fit for teams that already report in HubSpot.
  • Watch out: it is still in beta and covers three AI platforms. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode are not listed.

3. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: best if you already use Semrush

Semrush's toolkit tracks 25 custom prompts a day for one domain, with mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. Its Brand Performance report adds share of voice, sentiment, up to 9 competitors and the domains AI cites most.

  • Price: $99 a month per domain, billed annually. 50 extra prompts cost $60 a month, and each extra user needs their own licence. Semrush One plans bundle SEO and AI tracking from $199 a month with 50 prompts.
  • Good: AI and classic SEO data in one place, 53 languages in Brand Performance, and exports to CSV, Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Watch out: there is no free trial for the toolkit, and per-user licences add up for bigger teams.

4. SE Visible by SE Ranking: best value for daily tracking at volume

SE Visible checks every prompt daily on ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode, Perplexity and AI Overviews. It shows sentiment for each mention, the sources AI cites and localized prompt suggestions.

  • Price: Basic from $99 a month for 200 prompts, about 30,000 AI answers a month. Core $189 for 450 prompts; Plus $355 for 1,000. About 20% off billed annually.
  • Good: one of the lowest prices per tracked prompt in this list, CSV export and API, and a 10-day free trial.
  • Watch out: Claude is listed as coming soon, white-label reports are not available yet, and the product page lists seven countries.

5. Peec AI: best for agencies

Peec AI runs prompts daily on three AI platforms of your choice, with unlimited users on its Starter, Pro and Advanced plans. It shows visibility, position, sentiment and share of voice against competitors, plus cited sources down to the URL.

  • Price: Starter $95 a month for 50 prompts; Pro $245 for 150; Advanced $495 for 350. Extra AI platforms cost more. Separate agency plans include free pitch projects.
  • Good: suggested prompts with search volumes, CSV export, and a Looker Studio connector and multi-country tracking on Advanced.
  • Watch out: only three AI platforms are included before add-ons, and its prices come from Peec's July 2026 pricing facts page because the live pricing page did not display them.

6. Ahrefs Brand Radar: best for market-wide research

Brand Radar works differently from the rest. Instead of only tracking prompts you choose, it searches a database of hundreds of millions of prompts to show how often your brand and competitors are mentioned and cited across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot.

  • Price: from $199 a month for one AI platform. Ahrefs' help center lists all platforms at $699 a month, including 2,500 custom prompt checks. Extra checks are sold in packs.
  • Good: share of voice, mentions, citations and top cited pages against competitors, plus a Looker Studio connector, API and MCP.
  • Watch out: the AI chatbot index refreshes once a month, Ahrefs notes coverage may be limited for brands with little search volume, and no free trial is listed.

7. Scrunch: best for wide engine coverage

Scrunch includes seven AI platforms on every plan, among them Claude and Meta AI, which many entry plans leave out. It adds page audits, content-gap insights and reports on AI agent traffic to your site.

  • Price: Starter $300 a month, or $250 billed annually, for 350 custom prompts plus 1,000 industry prompts and 3 seats. Growth $500, or $417 billed annually, for 700 custom prompts. Extra seats cost $25 a month.
  • Good: citations, sentiment, position, citation share of voice and persona filters, plus a Looker Studio connector.
  • Watch out: after a prompt's first 14 days it runs every 72 hours instead of daily, though you can refresh on demand.

8. AthenaHQ: best for flexible, credit-based tracking

AthenaHQ charges by credits instead of prompts: one credit is one AI answer. The free Essential tier covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot. The paid Starter plan adds AI Mode, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral.

  • Price: Essential is free with 300 credits. Starter is $295 a month with 3,600 credits and unlimited prompts, topics and competitors.
  • Good: a long engine list on Starter, sentiment, citations, a content optimization agent, Shopify and GA4 integrations, and CSV export.
  • Watch out: prompts run on a weekly or monthly schedule, and credits run out faster the more AI platforms you track.

9. Profound: best for enterprise

Profound is built for large brands. It tracks up to nine AI platforms daily, captures answers from the consumer apps rather than API outputs, and adds prompt volumes, content tools and AI agent analytics.

  • Price: custom. As of October 2026 its pricing page lists only a free trial and an Enterprise plan.
  • Good: daily tracking across up to nine platforms, with exports, API and SSO on Enterprise.
  • Watch out: there is no public price, and the 7-day trial uses a fixed set of 50 industry prompts that you cannot edit.

How to choose the right AI visibility tool

Start with how AI answers behave, because it changes what a good tool looks like. The same prompt can return a different answer every time you run it.

StudyDateWhat it found
SparkToro and Gumshoe.ai: 600 volunteers, 2,961 runs of 12 prompts on ChatGPT, Claude and Google AIJan 2026On ChatGPT and Google's AI, less than a 1 in 100 chance that two answers listed the same brands, and under 1 in 1,000 that they listed them in the same order. Leading brands still showed up often: the top headphone brands in 55% to 77% of answers.
Ahrefs: 43,000+ keywords tracked for about a monthNov 2025An AI Overview had a 70% chance of changing between observations, and only 54.5% of cited URLs overlapped.
University of St. Gallen (arXiv): 32 prompts on ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode and Perplexity for about 45 daysApr 2026Roughly 58% to 66% of cited sources changed from one day to the next. One run's brand visibility estimate could be off by up to 72 points (95% confidence); after 8 runs, about 12 points.
How much AI answers vary between runs: three dated studies

Sources: SparkToro, Ahrefs, arXiv.

Bar chart: margin of error in a brand's AI visibility estimate at 95% confidence is plus or minus 72 percentage points after 1 run, 12 after 8 runs and 6.5 over a 28-day window (University of St. Gallen, April 2026).

What this means when you buy:

  1. Pick a tool that reruns prompts often, daily or every few days, and shows trends over time. A single snapshot is a rough signal at best.
  2. Judge by how often you appear, not your rank. The SparkToro authors concluded that visibility share is usable, but position in the list is not.
  3. Track the AI platforms your buyers use. Entry plans often leave out Claude, AI Mode or Gemini, so check which ones cost extra.
  4. Size your prompt list. One brand can start with 20 to 50 buyer questions; agencies multiply that by each client.
  5. Check citations at page level, so you know which of your pages to improve and where your content strategy has gaps.

Free AI visibility checkers and DIY tracking

Free checkers are a good first look, but each one is a single snapshot. Given how much AI answers vary, treat the result as a rough signal, not a score to report.

You can also track AI visibility by hand. List 20 to 50 buyer questions, ask each one in the AI tools your buyers use every month, and score each answer: cited = 2, mentioned = 1, absent = 0. We explain this method step by step in our GEO guide. It costs nothing but time, and it is a fair way to test whether a paid tool is worth it.

AI Mode is one more surface worth tracking, whatever its future in Google Search. We covered Google's latest statement on it in Google says AI Mode won't be the default.

Where Grovant fits

A tracking tool shows where you appear in AI answers. It does not change those answers. That takes the work in our GEO guide: clear answers, original data, third-party mentions and fresh pages. Technical extras matter less than most people think, as our guide to llms.txt shows.

Our SEO team does both sides. One senior specialist sets up prompt tracking, finds the questions where competitors are cited instead of you, then fixes the pages and data behind them. Our brand and PR team earns the third-party mentions AI engines trust. You keep the tool account and the data.

Every engagement starts with a free audit and a custom quote based on scope. Terms are month to month.

Article FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Quick answers to what readers ask about this topic.

  • An AI visibility tool runs buyer questions through AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, then reports how often your brand is mentioned or cited, which sources the answers use, and how you compare with competitors.

  • They give a rough snapshot, not a reliable score. AI answers change between runs: a January 2026 SparkToro study found that on ChatGPT and Google's AI there was less than a 1 in 100 chance that two answers listed the same brands. Paid tools that rerun prompts daily and show trends give a far more stable picture.

  • Yes. Semrush sells an AI Visibility Toolkit at $99 a month per domain, billed annually, and its Semrush One plans include prompt tracking. Ahrefs Brand Radar starts at $199 a month for one AI platform, with all platforms listed at $699 a month.

  • Most single brands can start with 20 to 50 real buyer questions across their main services. Agencies need that number for each client, so plans with larger prompt pools or credits suit them better.

  • At least weekly, ideally daily, and judge the monthly trend rather than any single day. One 2026 study found a single run could misjudge a brand's visibility by up to 72 points, while 8 runs cut that to about 12.

  • Not always. Tools collect answers in different ways: Profound says it captures answers from the consumer apps rather than API outputs, while HubSpot's free grader works from the models' training data. Ask each vendor how it collects answers before you buy.
